Using scraps

Image
Good afternoon! I have spent the last couple of days making some cards for a friend for his fundraising efforts for his scouts group. I thought it would be a great opportunity to use up some of those scraps collected from other card making sessions. I took some inspiration from various YouTube videos I watched; I rarely put any greeting on these cards, unless asked to. I was very pleased with these 4 cards & have scrap papers in other colours that I can make another set.  Although I still have 3 other found designs to try out. Obviously from these cards some scraps were created but I decided enough was enough & those have gone in the bin. But we can never have enough - or the right - paper & card can we?  I have just started a rather special card & having chosen the design & the stamps I then needed to search for the papers.  All this paper in my room but nothing suitable for this card.  So, this week, another pack of paper & some plain coloured card arrived.  A

New stamp

Good morning on a sunny Sunday here in North Wales. Towards the end of last year I purchased a couple of stamps, that were in a sale, & they had a large single word as the main feature surrounded by flowers & foliage.  In my sessions of looking for different fold cards I found I feel the perfect one to showcase the stamp. The fold is called a "Triple Diamond Point card", which I saw on Mixed up Crafts. Here is a front view of my finished card; The 3 flowers I stamped on the diamonds are from an anonymous set I have had for ages, but they just seemed to go well with the main stamp. Here is another view - this time standing on the diamond points, the main section of the front of the card is smaller than the back. It is the points that make it stand up. I do have a slight smudge of ink from the top flower - so just need to find one of my small butterflies then no-one will know.  Aah! But you will now. Since making the diamond card that I showed on 17 March I have seen a

Hello again, I hope you are feeling well & creating lots of lovely things. Today, another play-time card.  These are the cards that I find that have something different about them & I have a play to see if I like them.  Once again it is a design from Iced Images & is called a Triple Diamond Tent Fold Card; The card is made from 4 diamonds. Three of them are decorated & over lap each other.  The fourth diamond is folded in half & the triple set is attached to that - it creates the stand.  See next photo. I think it is a lovely design & very effective. At the moment I have it in mind for some of my Christmas cards this year, & of course I will have to make some with stamping. I also had the thought that for something a little more special it could be made with 5 diamonds (it would need, I think, 2 supports at the back - but not a problem).  I guess it could also be made with larger diamonds (just need to think about an envelope). Hmm! Will add those to my &quo

Different fold card

Good afternoon, & another week has almost passed me by without writing a post. Today I have a card to show to you that I made a little while back, just forgot to post photo.  Its from a tutorial by Paul Ford. I discovered his tutorials when I got interested in albums & have made several of his designs.  Every so often he does cards as well. This one is called an Angled gate-fold card. It is a very pretty shape & fits inside a 5" x 7" envelope. Here is a view of the card open. This size card is becoming very popular & even more so if they fold flat.  I am always on the look out for something different in a card & have several lined up that I am going to be making.  Some I have already blogged - but there is more to come.  So, watch this space! Have a good day!

Play time

Hello everyone. Yesterday I had a play day & managed to do several things.   Back on 5 March I showed you a card I had made using some die-cut floral designs, that I had refound the dies & cd's for.  So first thing in my play time I printed & die-cut some more of the images & I now have quite a nice little collection ready to make some cards. After that play I chose another of Iced Images designs & created that. This time it is the "double side step pop-up card". Here is the front view; & here is aerial view so that you can see the construction. It was a fairly easy design to prepare & put together. Three separate sections, two of which had the ends shaped to create those connecting pillars, & one flat section. The You Tube video I watched placed the small front piece centrally, but to avoid any chance of it being a bit top heavy, I placed mine level with the bottom edge. I really do like this card. It measure 7" x 5" & folds

Hi, everyone. Earlier this week I tried out a technique I had often thought about, but not tried.  The reason I finally decided to  have a go?  It was suggested by one of the groups I belong to, as a Show & Tell. The challenge was  --  Decorated Playing Cards. Here are my 3 best attempts; These 2 were created with oddments of papers from my stash.    The one on the left I have also inked through a stencil, added a card embellishment I found whilst looking for something else & a little metal sentiment. Because I had 2 clear halves I need something to cover it & spotted some of that Mizuhiki cord which I hadn't used in ages, so tied a couple of short strands in a knot & attached it to the card. The one on the right, again paper scraps & this time some stamping (the birds, words & verse), a little silver medallion & some stencil paste work which I inked over. This one is my favourite as it is all stamping which is my main craft - although you wouldn't t

Good afternoon everyone I hope you are having an enjoyable weekend. The card I have for you today is another one from the Iced Images collection. It is named "3-d collapsible frame card". I liken the front view to a greenhouse (particularly as I have chosen a floral theme). When you see the side view you will understand side view The finished size, of mine, is 7" x 5" & folds flat for posting as long as your decoration is not too deep. But it can easily be made in other sizes.  Also the demonstration I watched it was made with 3 apertures. My dies were not suitable for that - so I just did the 2. I only put my flowers on narrow double-sided sticky pads.  This lifted them from the back of the card which gave a slight shadow. It was a really nice card to put together.  When it came to decorating it I thought I would probably be using John Next Door flower dies.  But a couple of days ago I was going through a box I have that has papercraft cd/dvd's in & unc

Good morning everyone.  I find it hard to believe it is a week, or just over, since I posted on here. I have been busy with various projects that I hadn't realised the time was flying past. The card I have to show you today was shown on one of the clubs I keep in touch with. It was a much more layered different fold card - but I really enjoyed making it.  It is another design from Iced-Images. It's a little like one card inside another, but there is a little twist to it.  This first view is from the front & the butterfly is resting on a strip of acetate.  It is always difficult to photograph things with acetate on. The butterfly is clearer on this second view, & I have turned it slightly so that you can the hinges that put help create the shape. I should have taken an aerial view of it, but didn't think at the time. The design folds flat for postage & fits a 7" x 5" envelope.  A card for a special time I think. I hope you enjoyed your visit & pleas
